Blog 6: Favorite Series/Movie

Imagen
Hi everyone :) We are going to talk about favorite series or movie. Well, for me it's very difficult to decide because I have a lot of favorite series and movies. But I will talk about a series that I like whose second season came out July 31st! It's called The Umbrella Academy! I really like this series because I love superhero comics and this series is precisely about that haha. The series is about a billionaire named Sir Reginald Hargreeves who adopts 7 children and gives them numbers from 1-7 instead of numbers. However, their robot-mother ends up naming all of them <3 The billionaire is very abusive towards them and trains them to fight crime because they all have different powers. The series stars Elliot Page and also one of my favorite singers, Mary J. Blige, plays one of the villains. I like most of the characters, so I can't decide who is my favorite. I won't give any spoilers, but the series is very entertaining, dark, and mysterious. If you haven't se...

Blog 5: Music

Imagen
Hi everyone! Hope all is well. Today we are talking about music! My favorite singer of all time is Ariana Grande. She is a 27 year-old Pop/R&B singer and has a four-octave vocal range (similar to Mariah Carey who has a five octave-range!). She has six albums,  Yours Truly (2013), My Everything (2014), Dangerous Woman (2016), Sweetner (2018), Thank U, Next (2019, and Positions (2020).  I can't decide which is my favorite album, but sometimes I would say it's a tie between Yours Truly and Sweetner, Yours Truly because of it's throwback of 90's Pop/R&B and Sweetner for it's lyrical depth. To be honest, Dangerous Woman I love, but it is my least favorite album because the lyrics are not as deep compared to the others. Beside her music, I really like her as a person, she is a feminist and very progressive. She always speaks out about issues in the United States such as racism, homophobia, sexism, and gun violence.  Something that is really amazing about her is th...

Blog 4: A subject you enjoyed studying this semester

Imagen
Hi everyone, Today you're going to talk about a subject you enjoyed studying this semester. A subject I enjoyed a lot in university was "Caribbean Film and Literature" I thought it was an amazing course and I learned a lot. We watched films made by Caribbean film makers and read essays, novels, and short stories by different Caribbean writers. I got very inspired by that class as many of you may have realized. But for example, writers like Jamaica Kincaid, Christian Campbell, and Edwidge Danticat I use in many of my courses. I like these writers for different and various reasons. I like Kincaid because she writes well and always writes about controversial topics. I like Jamaica Kincaid because she always talks about anti-imperialism and anti-colonialism. Here is a picture of Kincaid and my favorite book of hers: Write about your favorite subject this term. Among others, include: > Name > Describe what you do in classes > Mention the main contents you have seen ...

Blog 3: My favorite piece of technology

Imagen
Hi everyone! Today we are talking about technology :) I think my favorite piece of technology is my iPod. I use it all the time to listen to music and it's almost like a companion to me. I've had it since 2013, so that is about 7 years. I always use it on the way to work, if I'm walking or taking the bus or the metro. It entertains me during long and tedious trips. At home, I use it to read because it keeps me focused, which I know sounds weird because music usually distracts people. Something very weird is that I try to listen to a full album when I go on long trips or when I read. Life without my iPod I think would be a boring, but I can survive without it lol. For example, a couple of years ago it broke, but I fixed it. Now it's your turn! Write about your favorite piece of technology Say: What it is. When you got it. How you use it. How often you use it. Why you like it. What life would be like without it. - 130 words minimum. - Include a picture.  - Comment on yo...

Blog 2: Why did you choose this career?

Imagen
Hi everyone! I hope you are all doing well! Today we are going to talk about why you chose the career that you're studying right now. I remember when I was younger I wanted to be a rabbi XD. I don't know why I did, but then after a while I realized that I would like to teach languages since I loved learning them myself. After the student movement 2011, I was very sure that I wanted to be a teacher. So after studying Latin American Literature, I decided to study Teaching, but I didn't know if I wanted to teach Spanish Language or English as a second language. I talked to many people and decided that it would be best to go for the second option. So I studied in the program, Certification of English Teaching to Adults in the Institute of British-Chilean Culture in Santa Lucía.  I am very happy with the decision I made because I love teaching English and I love to teach about the history and cultures of the English-speaking world.   Now it's your turn: Write about: - y...

Hi everyone! Welcome to your first English blog! For the first post, the subject is autobiography. Here is my autobiography as an example: I was born in Santiago, Chile. My mother is from New York and my father is from Chile (I only met him once when I was a baby). I did a DNA test to see my ancestry and on my mother's side I am of Lithuanian and Polish Jewish descent and on my father's side I am of Spanish, Mapuche, German, and Arab decent. My mom, brother, and I moved to New York when I was 2 years old and lived there for a year. We then moved to Boston, where I lived for many years. I studied in two primary schools, Williams Elementary School and Brown Middle School. I studied in Newton South High School for secondary education. I studied Latin American Literature for 3 years at Eckerd College in Florida and 1 year in the School of Philosophy and Humanities at the University of Chile. After that, I studied at the British-Chilean Institute of Culture to become an English teac...
